An interesting way to reduce the development’s time of a web project is called by launch soon, launch always. Let’s imagine that we are building some school website. The final product must have, in addition to the institutional information and news, a newsletter system, registration system and restricted areas for each discipline.

If we opt to launch the site only when it is complete, it may take up to 120 days. But it’s possible to launch the site with the institutional information and news in about 30 days, then go launching, regularly, the other features.

The advantage of this practice is that the company doesn’t stay a long time without website - or with an old site - and can still collect feedback sooner, helping to improve the project. With that, in addition to satiate the client’s anxiety is also possible to improve the site earlier.

There is a joke in the project management’s world which says that the only two certainties that exist at the beginning of a project is that the scope will change and that the deadline will be late. Although often it really happens, a good project manager is the one that minimizes the loss, finding the best cost benefit.

One of the great advantages of the Internet is that a product can be launched today and changed every day, improving gradually. This is not possible with physical objects, such as a chair, for example. If you buy a chair and tomorrow the manufacturer makes an improvement on it, you will have access to this improvement just if you buy a new one.

Recently we have done here in Wenetus a project for an advertising action in record time. From the client’s okay to the delivery of the product not happened more than a week. And they were two different systems.

We reduce the delivery time looking for those who had expertise in the codes of the system that would be developed and and taking advantage of previous projects, reusing codes. The rapid response satisfied both the client and our team.

Who uses any browser other than Microsoft Internet Explorer must be tired from accessing sites that don’t work well. At first, it may seem that the fault is of such different browser, but the developer is the real responsible.

The combination of Windows and Internet Explorer is the most used in the world, but it isn’t the unique. Indeed, it represents about 80%. The question is: what about the other 20%?

Firefox, Opera, Safari, Maxthon, Flock, Bubbles are just some of the other browsers in the market. Firefox is the most important of these and it’s growing more and more.

What is important is that the developer must creates sites the standards defined by the World Wide Web Consortium. Doing this, he will be assured that the site will be well displayed in all browsers who also follow the same standards (wich means all modern browsers).

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a set of techniques to improve the sites’ position in search results page at Google, Yahoo!, MSN and others. Such techniques range from good organisation of the source code to dishonest methods, known as Black Hat SEO.

We embraces the idea that content is king and a good content is the best SEO Technique ever. But there another tricks that might be useful. Here are the top five:

Link building: the site must have good internal and external links;

 Accessibility: source code must be accessible to users focusing facilities for those who have a physical or technical disability;

Title optimization: a mistake that many sites commit is to maintain the same title for all pages. The title is one of the most important tag. It must be unique and enlightening;

Meta description optimization: HTML has a meta tag description that should be used - on each page - with a description of what it is that content;

Keyword optimization: important words for the search results must be present in key areas, such as in the title, in the meta description and even in the address of the site.

When you are reading a text on your browser and you find a word like this you know that you have a chance do click this word and discover a world of information.

But, when you print that page and give it to other person, what happens? You loose the information. This person can’t just tap the word on a paper.

So, how can we print a web page and don’t loose the link informations? Well, there is a very simple solution: the use of page notes.

If you are reading an article about soccer and you have a link for the word Pelé, when you print that page you’ll have something like: Pelé[1]. Then, in the bottom of the page, you have the number [1] and the complete URL for that link. Very simple, isn’t it?

There is a basic principle of architecture that teach us an important thing: form follows function. Of course, there are exceptions and poetic licence, but in most cases an architectural project must first be functional and then be beautiful.

Web development is similiar or worst. When a person is in a building and find difficulties, he or she tries to overcome them. But when he is on a site, he simply leaves. And leaves quickly. Studies show that users decide if they stay or leave in less than 42 seconds. So a good usability is essential.

We don’t defend the idea that sites need only to be functional. We understand the value of aesthetics and you can check it through our portfolio. But we always think first about function.

Sometimes it even contradicts the initial desires of our customers, but we insist because we know that a site with good return on investment is primarily a website where users can complete their tasks.
